In 2017 and 2018, the Municipality of The Hague will be researching the feasibility of AVL for the De Binckhorst area. This area is undergoing a significant transformation from a business zone to a mixed, urban district at the edge of the centre of The Hague. Given this development, the accessibility of the area by public transport must be greatly improved in the years to come. The last mile between De Binckhorst and the stations at Voorburg, Den Haag Hollandspoor, and Den Haag Centraal can potentially be serviced by an automated transport system. Research is being done into the transport value, traffic situations, spatial and legal adaptation/coordination, benefits, and funding sources. For potential practical tests, a combination of automated transport with many cyclists over a short testing course of 30 km of road between a business location and an existing bus stop or automated water taxi across the Trekvliet is being considered.
