Project

Automated vehicles in goods distribution / “last metres” in goods transport

The “last metres” in freight transport is considered a complex, expensive and inefficient part of the logistics system. For this reason, ideas have been developed for using automated goods distribution vehicles (“pods”) to carry goods to the final destination.

Expected results

With the experiments, the system effectiveness (operational speed, efficiency, response time, wait time) can be determined. These depend on the system characteristics, such as having fixed or flexible loading/unloading points, fixed or variable routes, and whether driving takes place in mixed-traffic situations.

Experiment characteristics

  •     Realistic circumstances
  •     Different system configurations
  •     Longer period
