The Municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg wants to use Automated Vehicle Last Mile (AVLM) to gain experience. A possible future application of AVLM is the transport of the elderly. Older people continue to live independently at home for longer and AVLM may be able to offer a suitable solution for them to travel outdoors. That can aid in the sense of self-reliance that an older person has and fight against loneliness. In more concrete terms, a route between a major railway station and The Mall of the Netherlands is being considered. The municipality wants to see whether practical testing is possible in the short term together with the RADD. A difficult crossing area of a busy street is also being considered. That could be an excellent step on the road to actual realisation and could act as a supplement to the feasibility research planned for autumn of 2017.
